Airline Legend vs Airline Empires
Airline Empires is the classic free airline game, and we played it for years. Airline Legend is the newer one: simpler, made for phones too, and playable solo.
Both are free airline management games in the browser, and both put you in a world that runs through real history. Airline Empires earned its reputation over a long life and still has one of the genre's most loyal communities; it is also an old game that has changed little in years. Airline Legend takes the same idea — your airline, real aircraft, real decades — and builds it for today's web.

Airline Empires: the classic
Airline Empires deserves its place in the genre's history. For many players, us included, it was the first airline game that felt like competing against real people: every route you opened was one somebody else might fight you for. Its worlds cover a historical span — 1975 to 2005, 1990 to 2020 — and then reset, so there is always a fresh start coming. It has more than 2,000 airports, over 200 real-world aircraft, alliances, staff pay and in-flight service to tune, and world variants such as small maps, one-hub limits and worlds with no political restrictions. It is free, with nothing to buy, and it has stayed that way.
We spent years in it, and we still recommend it to anyone who wants a big multiplayer world. But it is old. The pages reload with every click, the screens were laid out for a desktop monitor, and the game itself has seen few changes in a long time. The worlds still reset and the forums are still busy — a new round of worlds was announced in September 2026 — but the game you play is much the same one players knew many years ago.
Airline Legend: the same idea, built for now
Play alone if you want to. Airline Empires has no solo game: if the other players are not online, not active, or simply better at it, that is the game. Airline Legend gives you a world of your own against AI airlines. They open routes, cut fares and fight for slots, but the world runs at your pace — pause it to think, step away for a day, come back and nothing has moved. When you want people, the multiplayer worlds use the same game and the same account.
Play it on your phone. Airline Legend was built for a phone screen as well as a desktop, and your airline lives on the server. Open a route at home, check how it did on the bus — same airline. The screen updates in place; nothing reloads.
A simpler game. You set a fare and a frequency; the game does the rest. You never tune meal service, staff pay or a timetable. That makes Airline Legend easier to learn than Airline Empires, and each round quick to read: this route made money, that one did not, change something and go again.
A world that pushes back. Airline Legend's history is more than aircraft on a calendar. The oil shocks, deregulation and recessions of each era move demand under you, and the unexpected happens: a flight is hijacked, a typhoon closes airports across the region, volcanic ash shuts the sky. A route that paid last year may not pay this year, and the airlines that last are the ones that see it coming.
And you can play it in your own language: English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and simplified and traditional Chinese.

FAQ
Is Airline Empires still running? Yes. Its worlds still reset on a schedule and its forums are active; the latest round of worlds was announced in September 2026. What has slowed is development of the game itself.
Can I play Airline Legend alone? Yes. A solo world is yours, with AI airlines as rivals, and it can be paused. Multiplayer is there when you want it, in the same game.
Is Airline Legend too simple if I come from Airline Empires? The controls are simpler; winning is not. Fares against rivals, slots at crowded airports, debt, the right aircraft for each era and the events that hit without warning still decide who is left standing at the end of a world.
Are they made by the same people? No. Airline Empires is its own long-running project; Airline Legend is ours.
Is Airline Legend really free? Yes. Every era, aircraft and airport is open to every player. Jet Coins are optional and save time; they cannot buy aircraft, cash, slots or a result.
Disclosure: Airline Legend is our game. Everything said about it here you can check by playing it for free. What is said about Airline Empires comes from its own website and from years of our own play; nobody paid for this page.
