NAMC YS-11-200
Japan's only postwar airliner, and the one every regional field in the country knew. The YS-11 was built by a consortium the government assembled to put the industry back together after the occupation ban, and it worked in every sense except the ledger: 182 airframes, a loss on each one, and the consortium wound up in 1983. Slow, short-legged and loud, it needed only 1,200 m of runway, which is why it served islands and Sea-of-Japan towns nothing else could reach.
