Yakovlev Yak-40
The Yakovlev Yak-40 of 1968 was a pioneering small tri-jet, one of the first regional jets in the world, seating around 30 with a rear airstair and the ability to use short, unpaved airstrips. More than a thousand were built for Aeroflot to bring jet service to remote communities across the vast Soviet Union. Simple and rugged, it introduced jet travel to countless small towns.
