Vickers-Armstrongs VC10
The Vickers VC10 of 1964 was a striking British long-haul jet with four rear-mounted engines and a T-tail, designed for the short, hot runways of Britain's Commonwealth routes to Africa and Asia. Passengers loved its quiet, smooth ride, and it held the record for the fastest subsonic Atlantic crossing by an airliner for decades. Excellent but expensive to operate, it was outsold by the Boeing 707 yet remained beloved.
