Convair 880
The Convair 880 of 1960 was built to be the fastest jetliner of its era, trading capacity for speed to lure premium passengers away from Boeing and Douglas. Seating only around 110, it was quick but costly to run and sold poorly, contributing to heavy losses for Convair. Today it is remembered as a fast, elegant also-ran of the early jet age.
