McDonnell Douglas DC-8-50
The DC-8 was Douglas's answer to the Boeing 707, entering service in 1959 at the dawn of the jet age. The -50 series added more efficient turbofan engines, seating around 130–150 on long-haul routes for carriers worldwide. Though it trailed the 707 in sales, it built a loyal following and, uniquely, one DC-8 even broke the sound barrier in a test dive.
