Boeing 720B
The Boeing 720 of 1960 was a lighter, shorter derivative of the 707 aimed at shorter domestic routes with less demanding runways. The 720B added turbofan engines for better performance and became a fast, hot-rod version popular with US carriers in the early 1960s. Though built in modest numbers and soon eclipsed by the 727, it helped Boeing carpet the American market with jets during the transition from propellers.
