Boeing 707-120
When the 707-120 opened Boeing's jet age in 1958 it made Pan Am's transatlantic and transcontinental jet service possible, roughly halving journey times overnight. This first production 707 seated up to 179 and turned the jetliner from a novelty into the way America flew, though its early turbojets were thirsty and noisy. It set the template — four podded engines under a swept wing — that airliners would follow for a generation.
