McDonnell Douglas MD-82
The MD-82 of 1981 added more powerful engines to the MD-80, improving performance on hot days and from high-altitude airports. It became the best-selling member of the family, a fixture at American Airlines and others, and was even assembled under licence in China. For many travellers of the era, the long, slim "Mad Dog" was the definitive domestic jet.
