Convair 990
The Convair 990 Coronado of 1962 tried to go even faster, with distinctive anti-shock "speed bumps" on the wings to smooth airflow at high speed, making it one of the fastest airliners ever built. But it too was thirsty and uneconomic, and even fewer were sold, deepening Convair's losses. It marked the end of Convair's brief, ambitious venture into jet airliners.
