Airbus A340-600

The A340-600 of 2002 was the longest airliner in the world at its debut, an enormous four-engined jet seating up to 380 built to rival the 747 on dense long-haul routes. Airlines like Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic and Cathay Pacific flew it as a flagship in the 2000s. But its four engines couldn't compete with big twins on cost, and it was retired well ahead of its potential.
