Ilyushin Il-62
The Ilyushin Il-62 of 1967 was the Soviet Union's first long-range four-engined jet, a rear-engined design that became the flagship of Aeroflot's intercontinental network. It carried Soviet leaders and flew prestige routes to Havana, New York and beyond, a symbol of Cold War aviation prestige. Distinctive for a small retractable tail wheel used during loading, it served Eastern Bloc flag carriers for decades.
