Airbus A320neo
The A320neo entered service in 2016 with new-generation geared and LEAP engines and sharklet wingtips, cutting fuel burn about 15% over the original A320. Launched as fuel prices and environmental pressure mounted, it drew a record order backlog and outsold its Boeing rival. It became the default single-aisle jet of the late 2010s and 2020s.
