Boeing 777-200ER
The 777-200ER of 1997 added fuel and power for intercontinental range, and its huge engines and reliability made it the aircraft that finally let twinjets fly the world's longest overwater routes. It replaced 747s on many thinner long-haul routes at far lower cost, becoming a backbone of international fleets. Its record-setting range flights showcased just how far ETOPS twins had come.
