McDonnell Douglas DC-6
The Douglas DC-6 of 1946 was a piston-engined airliner refined from wartime transport designs, pressurised for smooth high-altitude flight over weather. Through the late 1940s and 1950s it was a mainstay of long-haul travel, flying transcontinental and transatlantic routes for the world's flag carriers. Rugged and dependable, many soldiered on for decades as freighters long after the jet age arrived.
